Oyinkansola! Delisa! Lisa! You're getting married! I am so excited! I have known you pretty much your entire life and you have not changed a bit. Just like your name (Oyin), you are the sweetest person ever. If I don't feel like driving to brunch, you are always down to pick me up. We have traveled together, cooked together, laughed together, and of course, partied together! In fact, you're the only person I know that can fall asleep in a crowded club. Lisa, I admire your fearlessness in exploring the globe and I love how you hold your family and loved ones dear to you.
I am so honored to be a part of your special day. I know Francis can't wait to make you his wife, and we are ready to officially welcome him to the family.
Love you, mean it!

Delisa and I met during our time at Rice University. We were both active National Society of Black Engineer (NSBE) members. Senior year, Delisa was the Vice-President on my ticket for NSBE Chapter President! We won the officer positions, and let's just say the chapter was LIT (read: amazing) that year! Ha! Since Rice, our friendship has been unbreakable! When I first learned that Francis was interested in Delisa, I thought "Who is this man who tricked my friend into traveling to Jamaica with him!?" I was not happy with this story. Haha! Since getting to know Francis, I now think he is perfect for Delisa! I'm so excited and honored to stand by Delisa's side as she becomes our iyawo! xoxo

Double D!!!! (I won’t expand on how we both derived this nickname) oh, how I love thee! You are literally the sweetest person I know. I first met you (almost 2 decades ago) when our parents introduced us at Abey’s house, and I was a little taken aback. I couldn’t believe anybody could be that sweet. I am glad we have become more than just cousins, but great friends over the years. I miss our Texas Relays adventures and talking about foolish boys. I am so glad you met the bone of your bone and the flesh of your flesh, the only egg in your basket!! I am excited to be sharing in the beginning of your journey as husband and wife.

I actually don’t remember meeting Delisa, but I’m sure she remembers me. Delisa and I met when I was born, so she’s like my older sister. She carried me on her back for a few months and then I moved to Nigeria. We reconnected back in 2000 when my siblings moved here and the rest is history. Anyone who knows Delisa knows she’s a bundle of energy so when I met Francis I wondered “ghee I hope he got some stamina because that’s one strong woman to stand next to”. But as time progressed I noticed Francis and Delisa compliment one another. As they move into their next phase of life, I hope their love continues to grow, and they sharpen one another mentally, physically, and spiritually. Anyone who knows anything about marriage knows it’s not the love that enables marriage to succeed, but rather the willingness to persevere through the good, the bad, and the ugly. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness and joy!- Love, Okiki

I met Delisa 10 years ago on the first day of orientation at Rice University. I vividly remember because our parents connected as Nigerians do when they see each other in new places! We’ve grown closer as the years have gone by and now she is one of my best friends. I remember meeting Francis when Delisa introduced him as her “boo.” He was funny and treated her right so he was cool in my book. Watching their relationship blossom over the years has been inspiring! I feel so honored to be with them as they celebrate their love and commitment to one another!

My sweet Oyin! My favorite cousin in the world! It truly brings me so much joy to see that God has blessed you with your soulmate. I’m so glad I was able to experience this journey with you. From birth I was destined to watch over and protect you. Now I can step back with confidence knowing Francis will be your protector. You’re more than my cousin, you’re my sister. I’m so blessed to have you in my life. I’m so happy for you both. May God bless your union. I love you both! This wedding will be one for the books!

I have pages and pages to write about this union, but I’ll try to keep it short. Delisa and I were always meant to be lol. Our parents knew each other prior to marriage and kids. When I decided to move to Houston, the Somoye family welcomed me with huge open arms (love you all). Anyone who knows DeLisa knows she’s allergic to sitting around doing nothing, so every weekend she would find something for us to do. Almost every weekend we would go out we would always run into this particular guy who she always described as her work buddy. She was new to ConocoPhillips at the time, and he was tasked with getting her acclimated to the company. Clearly, Francis also had additional plans! We would literally run into him all the time and I was sure to give him my side-eye, every single time. I tried not to pay him any mind, hoping he would go away (because I didn’t know him and I’m super protective of my loved ones). He literally told me he would make me love him by force by fire lol. As their friendship blossomed into something more serious, I realized I was going to have to get use to this guy being around lol. Looking back now I could not imagine anyone else for my sister. Francis, you are so easy to love and I’m so ecstatic you two found each other. Delisa, you so effortlessly celebrate other people, and I’m honored to be given the opportunity to celebrate you on one of the most important days of your life. We will forever be a package deal and I might now consider letting Francis be a part of the package lol. Love you guys and can’t wait, you two! I pray for God’s abundant blessings over your marriage. We’re getting married...Woooohoooo!!!

I had the pleasure of meeting Delisa in Austin at Texas Relays. It was a night to remember filled with so many funny stories. Who knew we would come to be really good friends?! Over the years we have done so much including our BG meetings, our Houston summer night turn ups, and most recently our California road trip. Delisa is the life of the party and also a true friend. She’s very supportive and always available to give sound advice. Plus she’s the only friend who doesn’t mind taking a mini photo shoot wherever we go.

Delisa and I were destined to meet and did so in the most unusual way, on a NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) trip to Canada. I say unusual because I was neither a member of NSBE nor an Engineering major. In fact, I was a psychology major with wanderlust tendencies and hence could not reject an all-expenses paid trip to Canada. Delisa and I were seated next to each other on that serendipitous plane ride to Toronto and became fast friends. I went on to call her Somoye for the next year because I subconsciously could not accept that a Nigerian girl could have an easy first name. Throughout the following years of BBQs at Rice, Belvedere nights and laughter (lots of laughter), I noticed the effect that Delisa’s presence had on people. Delisa has the ability to make you feel like her best friend within seconds of meeting her, to the extent that any friend I introduced to her would request that I invite Delisa to our next outing. One thing I’ve always loved and admired about Delisa is her dedication to the people in her life – she probably has more godchildren and has been a bridesmaid more than anyone I know. I’ve always thought this quality about her would make her the biggest catch and I have been a first-hand witness to all of the men that have tried and failed to capture Delisa’s heart in Houston, all of the USA and abroad. So Francis is truly the luckiest man on earth. I have such fond memories of the beginning of their romance. Francis was tasked with mentoring Delisa on a professional level, but when he saw what God created in Delisa, he surely recognized that it was good! And so he offered to accompany Delisa on that faithful trip to Austin and then started making his presence known at outings, making himself available to escort her on trips, vacations and weddings. I remember when the three of us – Delisa, Ashley and I – were taking a morning nap on my twin bed in Cambridge, MA following my 25th birthday celebration and we inquired about her feelings towards Francis. Her answer at that very moment made me know that he was the one. It’s been an absolute privilege and pleasure witnessing them transition from Delisa, Francis to Delisa and Francis. I’ve always believed that the best marriages are those between friends. A couple must first LIKE before LOVE, so that their LIKE will sustain them when the world and circumstances wages a war on their LOVE. I see the friendship between Delisa and Francis – they have traveled the world together and made memories that will last them a lifetime. My prayer for them is that they always put each other first, continue to nurture their friendship and explore the beauty of God’s earth with each other till death do them part.
